When you just can't get enough of a good idea, there’s the new Mazda MX-5 RF.

As if Mazda MX-5 drivers weren’t having enough fun already, we’ve announced something rather revealing. As of 2017, Mazda MX-5 RF will be bringing a little more of the great outdoors into the picture with open-top driving! The RF designation stands for “retractable fastback” and the sleek body form that comes with it adds yet another element of style to its instantly alluring look.

And, despite the fact that the fastback styling roofline slopes down to the car’s rear, there’s no loss of cargo space in the trunk or interior whatsoever.

The sporty, targa-style configuration of Mazda MX-5 RF’s power roof – which stows itself quite nicely in a limited space – can be opened or closed at speeds up to 10 km/h with the press of a single button – not that you wouldn’t prefer to be safely parked to better enjoy the process. Yet it’s the coupe-friendly feel of this open-air enhancement that expands the philosophy of “Driving Matters” to include the value of taking in more of the great outdoors at the same time – moonlight, star-gazing and blue-skyin’ it – from both driver and passenger perspectives.

The new Mazda MX-5 RF will launch with a SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine. This only adds to the excitement of another Mazda entry that has broken the bounds of conventional thinking to create something entirely fresh and new.
