Warning and Cautions for Using the Shift Selector

 


Do not shift the shift selector with the accelerator pedal depressed.

Otherwise, the vehicle will suddenly accelerate which could lead to an accident.

Perform shift selector operations with the brake pedal firmly depressed and the vehicle completely stopped.

After stopping the vehicle, make sure that you are aware of the shift selector position before re-accelerating.

If the vehicle were to move in the unintended direction, it could lead to an accident.

After stopping the vehicle, check the shift selector position with the shift indicator before depressing the accelerator pedal.

Do not allow the vehicle to move in reverse on an upslope while the shift selector is in forward drive, or move forward on a downslope while the shift selector is in reverse drive.

Otherwise, the engine will stop, causing the loss of the power brake and power steering functions, and make it difficult to control the vehicle which could result in an accident.

Switch the shift selectorposition appropriately according to the direction in which you want to move the vehicle.

When parking the vehicle, shift the shift selector to the P position, apply the parking brake, and do not leave the engine running.

If the vehicle is parked with only the parking brake applied or with only the shift selector in the P position, the vehicle may move unexpectedly and result in an accident.

When parking the vehicle, shift the shift selector to the P position, apply the parking brake, and then stop the engine.

When parking the vehicle, shift the shift selector to the P position, apply the parking brake, and do not leave the vehicle power ON.

If the vehicle is parked with only the parking brake applied or with only the shift selector in the P position, the vehicle may move unexpectedly and result in an accident.

When parking the vehicle, shift the shift selector to the P position, apply the parking brake, and then switch the vehicle power OFF.

 


When reversing the vehicle and looking over your shoulder to check the rear, be careful and make sure the brake pedal can be firmly depressed as your driving posture will have changed.

 

Do not shift the shift selector to the N position while driving.

Otherwise, it could result in the loss of the engine braking power and cause an accident. In addition, it could damage the transmission.

 

Completely stop the vehicle before shifting the shift selector to the P position.

If the shift selector is shifted to the P position before the vehicle is completely stopped, unnecessary force will be applied to the transmission which could cause damage.
