Warnings and Cautions for Using Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS)

Do not rely completely on the CTS.

  • The CTS is not an automated driving system. All functions have limitations. Do not rely completely on the system and always keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the steering wheel. Even with the CTS, you are still fully responsible for driving the vehicle.

  • Set a vehicle speed within the speed limit according to the road and weather conditions.

  • The CTS may not be able to detect a vehicle ahead depending on vehicle type and its condition, the weather conditions, and the road conditions. Additionally, the system might be unable to decelerate sufficiently if the vehicle ahead applies the brakes suddenly or another vehicle cuts into your lane, which could result in a crash.

Do not intentionally activate the Unresponsive Driver Support.

The Unresponsive Driver Support operates automatically when the system determines that the driver is not in an appropriate driving condition. Intentionally taking actions such as hands off the steering wheel or looking away to activate the Unresponsive Driver Support could lead to an accident.

Do not rely completely on the Lane Change Assist.

The Lane Change Assist is not a system intended to automatically changes lanes without driver supervision. Always make it your responsibility as a driver to check your surroundings.

If another vehicle is driving parallel to you in an adjacent lane or approaching your vehicle rapidly, you may not be able to stop changing lanes, which could lead to an unexpected crash.

Always operate the steering wheel according to the surrounding conditions.

In addition, in the following cases, the steering assist function may not operate correctly, and the vehicle may deviate from its lane.

  • The vehicle ahead or a vehicle in the surrounding area changes lanes.

  • The vehicle ahead or a vehicle in the surrounding area is weaving.

  • The vehicle ahead or a vehicle in the surrounding area deviates from its lane.

  • The vehicle ahead or a vehicle in the surrounding area is driving to one side within the lane.

  • There are moving objects or structures in the surrounding area.

  • The road conditions change suddenly such as when there is a sharp curve, fewer lanes, a fork, or junction.

Do not use the CTS under the following conditions. Otherwise, it may result in an accident.

  • The vehicle is driven on roads other than expressways and highways.

  • The vehicle is driven on roads with sharp curves or with heavy traffic where sufficient distances between vehicles cannot be kept.

  • The vehicle is driven on roads where acceleration and deceleration are frequently repeated.

  • The vehicle is exiting the main lane on an expressway to enter an interchange, a rest area, or a parking area.

  • The vehicle is driven on slippery roads such as icy roads, snow-covered roads, and unpaved roads.

  • The vehicle is driven on a long downslope.

  • The vehicle is driven on a steep slope.

  • A two-wheeled vehicle such as a motorcycle or bicycle is traveling ahead.

  • The vehicle is being towed or towing another vehicle.

  • Proximity warnings activate frequently.

  • Under bad weather conditions (rain, fog, snow, and strong winds).

  • Tires other than the specified size are used, such as when tire chains or temporary spare tires are used.

  • The tire pressures are not adjusted to the appropriate pressure.

  • Tires with insufficient tread are used.

Do not leave the vehicle while the vehicle is stopped by the CTS control.

Getting out of the vehicle while the stop hold control is operating is dangerous as the vehicle may move unexpectedly and result in an accident. Before leaving the vehicle, switch the CTS off, shift the shift selector to the P position, and apply the parking brake.

After the Unresponsive Driver Support operates, take measures to prevent secondary damage.

If the driver is able to return to driving, have them move to a safe place or take other measures to prevent secondary damage.

After the full escalation of alerts from the Unresponsive Driver Support, the ignition must be re cycled for the vehicle to return to normal operation.

Heed the following cautions so that the CTS can operate normally.

  • Do not modify the suspensions.

  • Always use wheels of the specified size for the front and rear wheels. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer for tire replacement.

Do not use the CTS when using chassis rollers.
